Putting someone else’s name down on a criminal warrant other than your own is a felony under §18.2-168. forging public records, etc. – virginia law

I am representing a young man who put down the name of his brother on a speeding ticket to avoid trouble because he knew that he was on probation for a misdemeanor.  He made matters worse because he was charged with a felony to get out of a misdemeanor.  Many people do not know that putting another person’s name down on a speeding ticket is such a serious offense, but it is!

I am still working hard on this case to get this matter reduced to a misdemeanor inasmuch as he has no criminal record and I believe I will be successful.

The lesson to be learned from this experience sometimes trying to get out of an offense may get you into deeper hot water!
